Built in 1850 for Duncan Campbell, who was Simcoe’s first postmaster, the home was known as Lynnwood. In 1902, Duncan’s son Lorne donated the building to the town of Simcoe. In 1972, the building was designated a National Historic Site of Canada and two years later, in 1974, it became the home of the Lynnwood Arts Centre.
Today, Lynnwood Arts is a cultural beacon that preserves its historical essence while serving as a vibrant visual arts hub in Norfolk County. Seeing over 6,100 visitors a year, we champion accessibility to art, fostering learning, preservation, and creative expression. At its heart, Lynnwood boasts an impressive permanent collection with over 800 works including pieces by renowned artists such as Alex Colville, William Ronald, Tom Hodgson, and Robert Cadotte.
Central to our mission is celebrating Canadian artists, both local to Norfolk County through our Norfolk Studio Tour, and those from Indigenous backgrounds through our annual Indigenous Artist Project. We present exhibitions featuring artists from across Canada and bridge traditional and contemporary art forms through exhibitions, educational workshops, events, and programs.
